History of Scheveningen

The history of Scheveningen dates back to the 13th century and was first mentioned in documents as “Sceveninghe”. Over the centuries it changed from a small fishing settlement into a bustling port. In the 19th century, Scheveningen became popular as a seaside resort, attracting tourists with its medicinal sea air and picturesque coastline. The arrival of the railway in 1907 further accelerated the city’s development as a tourist center.

Joop Polder (The Hague, 1939)

Joop Polder was born in The Hague in 1939. He graduated from several art schools in Europe and has worked successfully as an artist for many years. Joop Polder draws his inspiration from architecture and his own dreams. In fact, most of his paintings are the product of his dreams and represent the way he would like to see the world around us. Joop Polder’s paintings are soothing and calm, a strong contrast to the stress of everyday life. His paintings are full of trains and trams, for which he is passionate. You could even say that they sometimes behave like humans. His enormous collection of old scale models reflects this passion. View the collection of paintings by Joop Polder.
